Evel Song

The King of Woolworths sent me a bunch of backing tracks and this one stood out. It was origionally called 'Tone Poem' and had a nice relaxation tape narration. Probably one of my favorite lyrics. It was one of those songs and melodies I had carried around for maybe years waiting to put it down. The only new addition was the 'everybody seems against my brain today' which was something my friend minna had said to me after one particular night out. Cima Cima came to a moshi gig purely on the name of the record label. Truly beautiful and as mad as a hat box. I still believe she has been working as an undercover spy.

The vocals were recorded with her in the basement of The Church Studios in Crouch End with Pete Rowe who for some reason unknown by me doesnt get a credit on the album. The first demo had a kind of chorus on it, 'mess on my shoes, mess on my sheets' which I thought was nice and pervy in cima cima's tones. This didnt survive to the final version but can be found on the excellent Matt Harding remix. There are a few different versions of 'Evels Song' around a live version from the ICA which goes into 'Can I Kick it' there is a semi accoustic from an XFM session and also an Ingo Star Cruiser Remix. Will try and let you hear them through the website as and when.

Pete Ingo

Shame you had to go so soon after the money
Ran out
Shame you had to go so soon and miss being around being around

I've this feeling that the feelings lost
Around the corner may be something special

If i tried some (harder)
What if I tried Some (harder)

She said shut up and go
I'd seen this method on a video
Smile she said:'Everybody seems against my brain today!'
